Posted on Posted in Press Release

Matteo Ferrer will pay tribute during his 2015 race season to the legendary German driver Graf Berghe von Trips. Nineteen year old Matteo who is of German descent will carry the Scuderia Colonia shield on his race cars and race helmet and suit to honour the great German driver’s achievements as well as to mark the 25th anniversary since von Trips established the Scuderia Colonia foundation for aspiring youngster.

The Ferrari team’s German driver was on the verge of claiming Germanys first Formula One Drivers World Championship at Monza in September 1961 when his car made contact with another car, speared off the track and overturned, throwing Trips from his car. He tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Trips was leading the World Championship and with two races remaining needed only one fourth place finish to lift the crown. Sadly it was not to be.

Matteo who is a student of motorsports history said, “I feel greatly honoured to be allowed to carry the Scuderia Colonia shield on my cars this year to commemorate the man who should have been Germany’s first Formula One World Champion. I have no doubt that he would have been a credit to his country and been a dignified and worthy World Champion.”
