Ferrer Launches Attack on 2014 Protyre Formula Renault Championship

Following a productive start to the 2014 season competing in the Toyota Racing Series New Zealand, and an intensive pre-season Protyre Formula Renault testing programme, Matteo Ferrer will contest the 2014 Protyre Formula Renault Championship with Mark Godwin Racing (MGR). He is delighted to have the opportunity to continue with the Team and sink his teeth into the Protyre Formula Renault Championship, drawing on his experiences in the Championship in 2013 and everything he learned in New Zealand.

The Leicestershire based team was founded by multiple Formula Renault Championship Engineer Mark Godwin in 2010 and quickly showed its competitiveness. MGR secured their first Championship last year in Protyre Formula Renault and are hoping to continue their competitiveness this season.

Mark Godwin Racing will field four cars in the 2014 Protyre Formula Renault Championship and team owner Mark Godwin is pleased to have Matteo in the team for another year, saying; “The progress Matteo made during last year was well in excess of any expectation and from what we have seen in testing he is better prepared than ever. I believe Matteo’s desire and commitment to improve has really paid off.”

A second season in Protyre Formula Renault is an exciting prospect for the Swiss based Italian. Matteo is very much looking forward to having the opportunity to race on familiar ground; “This will be the first time that I start the season with so few unknown factors. I know the car, the team and the circuits. I really believe that with many of the previous disadvantages removed it will give me my best opportunity to show my competitiveness”

During his 2013 season and the 2014 Toyota Racing Series Matteo made great strides in bridging the experience gap to his fellow competitors, having not followed the conventional route through karting. In only his second year in any form of motorsport Matteo made a remarkable impression against his more experienced opposition, gaining his first podium in the Formula 4 Winter Championship in November 2013, and competing in his first Grand Prix in New Zealand, where he was running in a very competitive sixth place before being the innocent party in an unfortunate racing incident, which prematurely ended his race.

Matteo will continue to be supported in his career development by Allinsport in 2014.

Protyre Formula Renault is regarded as the most popular and cost effective junior single-seater series in the UK, preparing young drivers as they mount the ladder towards Formula One. Formula Renault provides the opportunity for young drivers to gain vital race experience on the UK’s top circuits in a state of the art “slicks and wings” single-seater race car.

The opening round of the 2014 Protyre Formula Renualt Championship takes place 5 & 6 April at Rockingham Speedway, Europe’s fastest racing Circuit.
